Tummy tuck

Removal of excess skin and abdominal muscle repair, coordinated with full support before and after.

$95,000 – $135,000 MXNapproximate range

A tummy tuck is often confused with liposuction, but it solves a different problem: excess skin and muscle separation, not just localized fat. This guide clarifies the difference and what to really expect.

What exactly is a tummy tuck?

It's a procedure that removes excess abdominal skin and repairs abdominal muscle separation (diastasis), common after pregnancy or significant weight changes. Unlike liposuction, which only removes fat, a tummy tuck removes skin and can include muscle repair.

Many patients combine a tummy tuck with liposuction in the same surgery — but that's decided based on your specific case during the assessment, not upfront.

Who is a real candidate for this procedure?

It's suitable for people with excess abdominal skin and/or muscle separation that liposuction alone can't resolve — liposuction removes fat, but not excess skin or separated muscle.

It's important to have reached a stable weight, and if you're planning future pregnancies, discuss this with your surgeon, since a later pregnancy can affect the muscle repair result.

The process, step by step

During your assessment, the surgeon evaluates the amount of excess skin, the degree of muscle separation, and confirms whether you need a full tummy tuck, a partial version (mini tummy tuck), or a combination with liposuction.

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia, usually takes 2 to 4 hours depending on complexity, and usually requires 1 night of hospitalization for observation.

Realistic recovery — what to expect

It's a more demanding recovery than liposuction alone: the first 10-14 days require relative rest, a compression garment, and in many cases drain management during the first few days.

Walking (with a slightly hunched posture at first) is recommended early to support circulation, but full physical activity is generally cleared between 6 and 8 weeks.

Why coordinate your surgery in Cancún, not just pick a surgeon

Given the longer recovery and drain management involved, close support during your stay is especially important for this procedure — we coordinate your stay with the right margin for a safe recovery before flying back.
